Music is an indispensable part of the worship and fellowship experience at First Baptist. Many different styles of music are used. Music presentations include vocal and instrumental solos, choir anthems, handbells, various ensemble groups, children’s choir, and guitar, organ, and piano numbers. Our musicians are non-professional and not paid, but are believers who feel part of their ministry is to share the talents God has given them so others will have a deeper and more meaningful worship experience.
Sanctuary Choir (adult choir)
The adult choir ranges from around 20 to 40 in number. It includes people of all backgrounds and skill levels. It’s members are a fun loving and fellowship loving close-knit bunch who laugh together, cry together, and pray together, and share in each other’s joys and sorrows. The choir sings at least one anthem during the service which usually complements the sermon or reinforces a theme of a holiday or special event. The choir annually presents Christmas and Easter Cantatas, and has also sung the National Anthem several times at the local baseball stadium. Practices are on Wednesdays at 7:15PM. Sanctuary Choir is not formal. There are no auditions. So, if you have a “hand basket” capable of “carrying a tune”, come join us. You will be glad you did and God will be pleased.
Bells in Motion (handbell choir)
This is a small group of talented and hard-working believers who “make a joyful noise” with bells. The handbell choir often accompanies the congregation during the singing of hymns and also presents special programs at Christmas and Easter. They often share special programs at area nursing homes and similar venues. The Bells in Motion practice is on Wednesday at 6:00PM.
Children’s Choir
Kids from Kindergarten through 6th grade meet to practice on Thursday at 3:45PM. Their gathering time always begins with an after-school snack and fellowship time. Through the effective use of musical games, stories, and activities, the children improve their musical abilities and learn the joy of sharing those abilities to tell the story of Jesus and God’s love. They often share in the worship service and usually present at least one special program during the year.
Praise and Worship Team
This small but energetic team leads the congregation in a time of “gathering songs” as people prepare themselves for worship. These songs can range from those that are more contemporary and up-beat in style to those of a more quiet, thoughtful nature, and are usually chosen to complement the sermon topic of the day. People of all ages find these songs inspiring and a welcome way in which to prepare their hearts for worship. The Praise and Worship gathering songs complement the more traditional hymns that are also sung and regardless of preferences, people find themselves drawn closer to their Lord. The team gladly welcomes anyone interested in joining their group.
