March 2, 2014 - Building Community - Luke 14:15-24

  • Ancient Jewish families held together mostly by what happened at the family table.
  • Every time Christians gather at the Communion Table, we also remember. What we remember is that we are part of the family of God.
  • God is trying to invite us home to be a part of His family. But those of us who are busy getting our lives just right are never in a hurry to come home to God. And that means they aren't amazed by the grace being given.
  • If we find ourselves at the table of God today, it isn't because we are here by rights. We are the second-round draft picks, those who have been crippled by the severity of life and blind to hope. We are here only by grace. If you remember that, it changes the way you respond to everyone else who comes to church.
  • Grace changes everything about you. Best of all it makes you gracious.
  • Our commitment to build community at First Baptist begins with each of us making room in our hearts. It begins with how we treat the visitor in our midst. It begins with how we treat each other. It begins and ends with amazing grace.
